 5. How did you attract/address your audience?

I tried to attract my audience by styling it off of magazines like Kerrang which was already reaching the audience I intended to be for my magazine, the way I did this was by trying to take elements from the existing magazine and trying to implement them into mine, mostly I tried to do this with the cover as that is what would draw in the people I wanted to, so I had to make it appeal to them and the usual magazine conventions for the rock genre are to have a large bold masthead with a signature font that people will associate with it.

Also the artists I used in the magazine were reasonably stylised to fit the genre of music and draw in the audience for that music, if they see the artists on the cover and instantly assume what genre the magazine is and what kind of content it will have in it.

The way I have decided to address my audience is through the language register that I have used, this being a more informal register this could also appeal to my audience as this shows it is not a generic music magazine that doesn’t care about the music, so the text in the magazine shows feeling and this is the kind of devotion that my audience may like to see in a music magazine.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

For my music artists I tried to base them off of other artists such as Paramore and Pretty Reckless in the way of style in that the lead is a woman and the backing musician are men. The clothes the men are wearing are similar as they are just wearing dark T-shirts and jeans the same as my male models and the women are wearing the same shade red lipstick that makes them stand out from the males, but Hayley Williams is wearing more make up like heavy eyeliner while my model is not and I could have used this on my model to make her more stylised to the genre of music I am trying to target. Differences with the male models are that they look a bit too clean cut for what I am trying to achieve.  There is also a visible lack of tattoos, something that is commonly associated with this genre and my intended audience. Other differences include the expressions on the model’s faces. My models are smiling, whereas the Paramore members have a serious expression which conveys a more dedicated approach to their music.

Through the style research in the first stage of this project I was able to get some examples of how my audiences style came across and applied a small amount to my models as I did not have the resources to style them fully, more makeup could have been added to my woman model and darker clothes and maybe something leather and for my male model he could have been wearing just a T-shirt without the hoodie and put some fake tattoos on him to give him more of an edgy look, if he also had some facial hair this could have made the look a bit better too. I also used UK tribes as a way to see the style of my audience, how they dressed what their other interests are, so I could have got a bit of influence from those parts of the audience as well. My main audiences from UK tribes would be the Hard core and Young Alts as they are interested in the types of music my magazine would have in it.
